A little project...

A little over two years ago I was offered a promotion to Prince Edward Island. Since I’m always looking for a new adventure I decided what the hell? What could possibly go wrong?

A few weeks after I moved to the Island a global pandemic hit. And I wasn’t going anywhere.

That being said, if one has to endure a pandemic lockdown, I would highly recommend finding yourself trapped in a tourist haven, a place with hundreds of kilometers of walking trails, brimming with sandy beaches, friendly folks and amazing restaurants.

While COVID is still a concern, this summer the Island’s tourism sector is reviving, becoming something akin to its pre-pandemic state with the return of concerts, festivals and events across the Island.

So I've decided to take a few weeks this summer and get out and explore the Island by visiting all the province's towns. Five years ago I toured all the incorporated towns in Nova Scotia (www.nstowns.com) and this summer I plan to do the same on Prince Edward Island.

So here's the plan. During the next few weeks I will visit each of the province's incorporated towns where I will try to accomplish the following:

1. Take a selfie with the town's welcome sign. I probably won't post these since I'm a Gen Xer and have no clue how to take a proper selfie.

2. Check out a Visitor's Centre - and if there’s none in town, where could you find the nearest one

3. Visit a town museum or heritage centre

4. Explore a public space – like a park, trail or boardwalk

5. Eat at a local restaurant

6. Drink a locally produced spirit –  something from a local brewery, cidery, distillery or winery

7. Find some art in public places

8. If available, acquire some town swag – like a postcard, magnet or snow globe (because snow globes are awesome)

If you'd like to come along for the ride – check back every Sunday and Wednesday and I'll tell you about my latest adventures.

A little bit of trivia: Prince Edward Island is Canada's smallest province and accounts for less than 0.1% of Canada's total land area but it's still larger in size than 15% of all the countries on earth, including Brunei and Luxembourg. Canada is huge!!!
